8 TIPS FOR ATTENDING A SUMMER WEDDING / FUNCTION

 INVITED TO AN OUTDOOR WEDDING OR EVENT THIS SUMMER?  If so, for some it may be a very exciting time and for others, it can be quite stressful. Finding that perfect dress that will look chic and refreshing while surviving the summer heat is the biggest challenge.

Here are some helpful tips  to keep you looking refreshed and stylish for your summer wedding shindig.


1. When looking for an outfit, opt for a cotton sundress or anything made of natural fibres.  Whether it be short or long,  anything loose fitting or flowy will be your best friend that day.

2. Stylish yet comfy shoes. This is probably every woman's nightmare. Try to find shoes that are sexy and feminine, yet comfortable.  Opt to a summer strappy metallic flat, a strappy block heel or the traditional wedge heel. Being outside, chances are you will probably be walking on the grass or through pebbled paths that surround the gardens. You don't want to be destroying your favourite stilettos or falling face first in the dessert bar.

3. Always bring a shawl or fancy blazer. I really don't understand women that attend outdoor weddings dressed for daytime only. They seem to forget that the sun will eventually set and temperature will fall. Unless they love the look of their boyfriend/husbands blazer draped over their shoulders, they need to start being more prepared. Always bring a jacket or shawl that compliments your dress. If you don't have it, borrow it. Ladies, please leave those cotton button sweaters at home. We are not at the office anymore and we don't need to look like we are 10 years old with those silly looking cardigans.



4. Jazz it up with bright summer bling/accessories. Ladies, this is the perfect time of the year to take advantage of your coral shoes, or your turquoise jewelry over that sexy white dress. Borrow your friends gorgeous colourful tassel clutch from Stella & Dot which will make any outfit rise to the top. Remember, if your dress aint so fancy, adding shoulder length tassel earrings or shimmery shawl can be the winning ticket.

5. Style your hair in an updo or a fancy half braid.  Summer weddings can bring along really sticky hot and humid temperatures and you know what that means for your hair......friz mania!!!  You may be that gal that loves having her hair down in waves or curls at functions, however take this rear opportunity to put it up in stylish bun, an updo or even my ultimate favourite nowadays, a braided updo. These hairstyles are not only hassle free but you will feel much more refreshed throughout the whole evening.




6. Wear a hat. In Europe, it is quite normal to wear a hat to a fancy wedding. This will not only shield your face but it would add some European punch to your ensemble.





7. Wear sunscreen. It may seem like a no-brainer, but sunscreen is a must. Try to find one built in your foundation. Especially if you are trying to stay cool, the last thing you want is a blistering sunburn.  

8. Hydrate yourself.  Make sure you always carry a bottle of water with you to keep yourself hydrated. If it doesn't fit in your purse, then carry a round a fancy white gift bag. No one needs to know. Being hydrated will keep you cool and comfortable all day.
